  • A Ministry Update

This is a post that my wonderful wife posted on our Ministry Website.  I thought that is was very appropriate and I know that there are a few people that look at my xanga site that may not see hers.

You can see the original post here.

We are not alone in our struggles

I will occasionally read the blogs of missionaries already at RVA. It helps to remain focused and determined when things physically get rough and try to be discouraging around here. We so deeply desire to be there - words are beginning to fail to contain the passion for these students that is inside of us! Today I realized, once again, that we are not the only ones struggling to get to Africa this summer:

    Load your cannons

I recently asked for prayer for all of our vacancies as a staff.  Since we’re all ”faith-based” missionaries at Rift Valley Academy, we receive no salary; all of our money to get here and live here comes from supporters.  If you prayed for those staffing needs, thanks.  Today, at our staff prayer meeting, we got the report on all of the staff who are already committed to come.  And it ain’t pretty.  Most of them are currently trying to raise support, and most of them are hundreds and hundred of dollars short of the monthly support they need to work at RVA.  I can’t tell you how much this frustrates me.  People are ready to serve the lost and reach out to the world for God’s glory, but no one will stand behind them, sacrifice on behalf of them.

I know, I know.  I need to focus on my God and not the mountain in my God’s way.  I need to keep positive.   So instead of despair, I’ll pray and focus on quotes like this:

“I had rather stand against the cannons of the wicked than against the prayers of the righteous.” Thomas Lye

We are one of those missionaries that he is referring too. Yes, we are hundreds of dollars away from our support need. We have until May 27th to get there. There are many ways that YOU can help us reach this goal: pray, choose to support, tell your family, church, and friends about our ministry. We need your help - reaching Africa is not something we can do alone! We are so very appreciative of those who have already chosen to get involved!

This missionary has two blogs. His other one has a video that was put together by a couple RVA students highlighting what the country has been through these last few months. I think that it is well worth the 5 minutes it would take to view it. Then remember that just because a political compromise has been reached, it doesn’t mean that its back to life as normal for Kenyan nationals. They can really still use your prayers - and so could all of the missionaries trying to raise support to get there!

  • School Has Begun!!!

So, school has finally started and with it comes a new Information System with all its’ glitches and glory. It has been a very interesting start to August as many things have happened in preparation for school to start. I am now working a full schedule of 7:45 to 4:30 p.m. every day and sometimes even the weekend. Well, that’s it for this update as I have things that need to be done. I just wanted to let everyone know that I had not fallen off the face of the earth or been caught up in the rapture. So, have a good night and as things calm down, I’ll get back into my routine of posting more often.

  • Vacation!!!!

So, I am writing this on the first day of my wonderful vacation. I have TWO weeks off of work….. YEAH!!!!!!! I have been really needing a break as this summer has been one filled with a lot of work. It will be great to have two weeks off and to enjoy time with my family. I am really looking forward to spending time with Munchkin and Monkey and their wonderful mommy (or should I say, my lovely wife). So, I pose the question to all of you. What would you do with two weeks off that would be enjoyable and make lasting memories with your family? Any suggestions? Well, I do know that we are going to visit St. Louis as we live close, but that will only be a few days out of the 2 weeks.

Maybe I’ll even write about all the fun times that we are having.

  • Rocketry!!!!

Ok, so tomorrow is going to be a great day if the weather will remain nice. I have the opportunity to show the fourth grade summer classes about model rocketry and how everything works. It has been a while since I shot my model rockets off for anyone. Munchkin has been really excited about seeing all of the rockets that I currently have. I did shoot my oldest rocket off today for a test to make sure that everything was working. Well, it worked all right and the jetstream was pretty windy today and decided to take the rocket on a wild ride and I was never able to recover it. Oh well, that’s part of the fun. Here’s hoping tomorrow will be a great day filled with excitement. By the way, it’s been raining cats and dogs for the past few hours and it is supposed to go well into tomorrow. I think that if I can’t actually launch the rockets, that I will at least take them for all the classes to see.

  • Fun Weekend!!!

We spent this last Saturday enjoying a local state park

The above link will show you some of the pictures that were taken on our trip. It was a fun and exciting journey that completely wore all of us out. We had such a good time and enjoyed every moment of it. Munchkin and Monkey were great troopers. They walked almost two miles on Saturday when we were having so much fun.

I love the outdoors and I am hoping to get to spend much more time outside and going to neat places like this again in the future. I hope that everyone will have the chance to enjoy the weather and get outside for a while this week.
    It does a body good!!!!!

  • The Tale of Two Fish

    betta-red-male

This story begins a long, long, long, long time ago in a land far, far, far away. There were once two little kids named Munchkin and Monkey. Munchkin and Monkey always loved going shopping with their parents, because many times they were allowed to go visit the deep blue aquariums where the red, blue, spotted, and otherwise beautiful fish lived. Munchkin and Monkey would spend all the time they could looking at the different variety of fish that were in the store. These fish could be purchased and many times Munchkin and Monkey would look up with longing faces at their parents and ask, “Can we have a fish today?” Each time they asked their parents would look back at them and say, “Not today.” Their parents knew that there would never be a day when they would say yes. Time went on. Days came and went, months came and went, even years came and went. But, each time the kids were at the store where the wonderful fish were, they would look and ask the same question, knowing the answer.

One day, on a very beautiful star-filled summer evening, the kids went with their parents again to the wonderful store where the fish lived. For some reason, this day, the daddy parent was filling a little more happy, you could even say cheerful. The daddy parent decided to take the kids to see the fish and while they were looking at the beautiful colors of the fish, the daddy had a change of heart. He asked the kids, “If we get the fish today, and you may have to leave them in the next year or so, are you going to be sad?” The kids answered with happy grins on the faces, “No, we would not be sad. We would enjoy them while we can.” This made the daddy parent very happy and he and the mommy parent talked it over and decided to let the kids each pick one fish out. They picked out Beta Fish, because Beta Fish do not need as much work to keep them. They found a double fish tank that allows the Beta’s to be in the same tank, but not to harm each other. This was the perfect solution and so, the kids and the parents were able to take their new fish home and have been enjoying them ever since.

    The End.

In case you haven’t figured it out, the following story is a true story and when pictures of the fish are available, I will post them for everyone to see.
